Psyc 144 MIDTERM Review Sheet •This review sheet is for lecture material ONLY & does NOT cover all material that could possibly be on the exam. It is not meant to be the only source you use for studying for the exam, but just a guideline. •Bring a #2 pencil and a regular pink scantron to the exam. •Reading : Ch. 1, 4, 5 + presentation/journal articles 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 2C, 3A, 3B Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure – what is it and how is it used? what is it used for? how do amnesics perform on it? Clive Wearing – who is he? what happened to him? what part of his brain was damaged and how? what is the result (ie., what can’t he do and what is spared)? why are we discussing him at all? Generally speaking, in terms of analyzing memory, how do we go from different forms of memory (eg., declarative vs. nondeclarative) down to molecular activity? HISTORICAL FIGURES FOR EACH PERSON LISTED , THINK ABOUT HOW THEIR THEORIES APPLY TO FINDINGS AFTER THEIR TIME (for example, Aristotle’s principles of contiguity and frequency fit fairly well with Pavlov’s research findings, many years later) Socrates – what did he say about memory? Aristotle – what was his theory and what are the 3 principles of association? William James Memory Model – what is it? he distinguished b/w 4 diff forms of memory – what are they? what did he believe about associationism and what did he say about the brain? Ramon y Cajal – what were his theories about learning and neural change? Hermann Ebbinghaus – what did he do? what did he find? what were his theories? Ivan Pavlov – what did he do? what did he find? what are generalization & extinction? be sure to be able to identify a CS, US, CR, and UR Who is Patient EP and why did we see a video of him?
