Homework Set #3: Due date: 10/05/07, by 11:00 am. Problem #1: Two immiscible fluids A and B are flowing in laminar flow between two parallel plates. Is it possible that the velocity profiles would be of the following form? Explain Problem #2: Solve problem 2A.3 at the end of Chapter 2 of BSL. Problem #3: Perform y- and x-momentum balances for the falling film flow problem and show that These balances are not necessary for obtaining the velocity profile in thin film flow. Problem #4: Problem 2B.3 at the end of chapter 2 of BSL, parts (a), (b) and (c) only. Follow the terminology in the diagram in Figure 2B.3 on p. 63. Note that x = 0 in the center of the slit in this figure. Note also that the answers are given; what is desired is the derivation. For convenience in grading, perform the derivation in the following steps: a) Define a control volume b) State assumptions c) Perform a momentum balance on z-momentum, and explain why there is no need to perform respective balances on x- and y- momentum.
