Abstract
It is a fact that every teacher ultimately desires to have a well-managed classroom. A classroom
that is positive, engaging, and consistently improving upon observable outcomes. For a teacher
to be successful with classroom management a well-developed set of rules and procedures is key
to mastery. In addition to rules and procedures, knowledge of appropriate discipline and
procedural techniques to meet the individual guidance needs of students is critical. Certain rules
and procedures can promote or hinder the positive classroom environment. This unit’s
introduction points out that “classroom rules and procedures do differ from each other”. It is
important to distinguish rules from procedures to avoid many pitfalls. Educators must recognize
that certain types of rules and procedures can enhance the positive environment and others can
detrimentally discourage. Recognizing the difference is a level of successful classroom
management that every teacher should strive to attain. The social, emotional and academic
development of students is an incredible process as is the growth and development of teachers!
