AbstractIt is a fact that every teacher ultimately desires to have a well-managed classroom. A classroomthat is positive, engaging, and consistently improving upon observable outcomes. For a teacherto be successful with classroom management a well-developed set of rules and procedures is keyto mastery. In addition to rules and procedures, knowledge of appropriate discipline andprocedural techniques to meet the individual guidance needs of students is critical. Certain rulesand procedures can promote or hinder the positive classroom environment. This unit’sintroduction points out that “classroom rules and procedures do differ from each other”. It isimportant to distinguish rules from procedures to avoid many pitfalls. Educators must recognizethat certain types of rules and procedures can enhance the positive environment and others candetrimentally discourage. Recognizing the difference is a level of successful classroommanagement that every teacher should strive to attain.
