Edouard Manet was born in Paris on January 23, 1832. He was the oldest of three sons. He was born into a wealthy family, his father from the side of magistrates, and diplomats on his mother’s side. In the spring of 1883, they amputated his left leg, and he was infected with Gangrene. He died shortly after that in Paris on April 30, 1883. Manet lived in the nineteenth century France. It was the time of Impressionism. During this time, freedom of expression was not known to the art world. Manet, is famous for his paintings, because many of them were nude, and not from the Bible. During this time Napoleon III was exiled, and it was the end of the monarchy in France. During this time, the Eiffel Tower was built. The Eiffel Tower was a huge political event. It caused a lot of uproar in Paris. Many people were opposed to the idea of it, but now it is consider the symbol of France. Edouard Manet is the son of Auguste Manet, a civil servant in the Ministry of Justice, and Eugeine Desiree Fournier, daughter of diplomatic envoy to Swedish Court.
