Linear dimensions for most substances increase when the temp increases in a rangethat doesn’t produce phase change. The added heat causes an increase in vibrational kineticenergy. The increase in linear dimension is proportional to the increase in temperature and theinitial linear dimension.Experimental Procedure:Step 1: Measure the initial length of the rodStep 2: Insert the rod into the heating jacket, pointed against the adjustable screw and flat endagainst the dial gauge.Step 3: Record the initial temperature.Step 4: Record the initial dial gauge reading.Step 5: Turn on the steam generator and let the steam into the heating jacket until the rod has asteady temperature. Record the steady temperature as the final temperature.
