Lucas Vinze Judo October 31, 2007 Article Review “Team or Individual Sports” In the age of T-ball, peewee football, and soccer moms, Kids are playing more sports than at any other time. These sports are meant to inspire confidence and coordination in our youth, but which is better in the end for their development, team sports or individual sports? Yohan Wolf gives 15 reasons why Judo is a better sport than a basketball league or soccer. The first two reasons are self-defense and confidence. An obvious benefit of knowing a martial art is the ability to defend oneself in the time of need. It also quickens your reflexes so that conflicts could be avoided in the first place. However if they would occur, they would have the self-confidence and assurance to defend themselves. Another positive in Judo is the belts and ranking system. Often times in team sports kids get frustrated because there aren’t objective measures of improvement. However, in Judo, there is a concrete system of progression. This system for success
