1 March 2007 Bacterial Experiment For proper dental hygiene one must use mouthwash. Antiseptic and anti- plaque mouth rinse kills the germs that cause plaque , gingivitis , and bad breath . Anti-cavity mouth rinse contains fluoride to protect against tooth decay . Even with the use of mouthwash you must still practice both brushing and flossing for proper dental and mouth care. Bacteria are the simplest and oldest known form of life on earth. Bacteria are often associated with diseases but certain types perform important beneficial roles to organisms. Bacteria perform beneficial acts such as: producing oxygen, recycling elements, and changing nitrogen so that plants can use it. Bacteria can also have detrimental effects. For example the bacteria called streptococcus can cause tooth decay. This is why it is important to use mouthwash to prevent the presence and growth of these types of bacteria In order to test the mouthwash is most effective, we will gain a sample of mouth bacteria and watch the mouth washes effects on it.
