Psych ch. 18 Personality Disorders 5 characteristics within all disorders: *Unusual Extreme *Problematic *interferes Socially *Stable (doesn’t disappear)  *Ego-Syntonic (person doesn’t see something is wrong) A personality disorder, by definition is the expression of an unusually  extreme degree of one or more attributes of personally       *not only extreme but also unusual, especially considering the  individuals cultural context Unusually extreme behavioral pattern causes major problems for the person  or others *you feel like its normal (ego syntonic) *Dependent Personality Disorder - relies too heavily on others.  -Submissive -Afraid to disagree…. Yet underneath they are bitter and you can almost  detect it.  - Vicious cycle Avoidant Personality -expect absolute worst from people -Think they are socially inept and undesirable  -trouble in school, work and relationships
