A) Only protein A will have the 35 S-cysteine in it because it contains cysteine in it to being with while protein B does not. B) If this experiment is done in the presence of cycloheximide then neither protein would have the chance to have 35 S-cysteine in it because the cycloheximide would inhibit protein synthesis and therefore no new proteins would be able to integrate 35 S labeled cysteine into their sequences. 2. Amino acids that were 35 S labeled were used to label proteins in the Hershey-Chase experiments because they wanted to label the protein and DNA components separately. Proteins contain sulfur, while DNA does not, and therefore the radioactive sulfur will be included in the proteins only. 3. If a virus with a protein coat surrounding a DNA genome is treated with DNase and retains its infectivity then the protein or the RNA must contain the genetic material.
