Know Your Heads of State: Whatever powerful leaders does can cause ripples in the world and affect everybody. President Barack Obama – Unite states. The most popular politician on the planet – everyone on planet earth knows who he is. Just center left. Bush was just center right. Prime minister of Canada – Stephen Harper – pic number 1. He is just center right (conservative) President of Mexico – Enrique Pena Nieto – pic number 2. Just center left Why we should know all three leaders – established representative democracy. Both huge U.S allies. Huge trade partners. Largest unguarded borders because they are huge allies. Mexico has powerful military. Mexico – previous leader of Mexico Felipe Calderon. Center right. Started war on drug cartel. Violence has spilled into Unite states. Mexican stuff affects our stuff. Major theme for Latin America – has been moving to the left for a decade – because wealth disparity. They tried to fix this by taxes wealth, taking over gas and oil industry to distribute back to citizens. Hugo Chaves – Former President of Venezuela – died. Pic number 3. Self- proclaimed socialist Bolivarian revolution. Going further to the left by taking over companies. Encouraged a lot of Latin American leaders to move to the left. Simon bolivar – led independence movements. Nicolas Maduro – current president of Venezuela – pic number 4. Venezuela in state of office because of the death of the former president. U.S hated Chávez and does not like maduro and they didn’t like them again. Because they took over oil industry – chevron and exon. U.S hates hardcore socialism. Fidel Castro – ex-president of Cuba. Rahul Castro is the current president of Cuba. –Pic number 5. They are full on communism – extreme left. They have pretended to be communism – look like socialism but really a fail. Evo Morales – president of Bolivia – pic number 6. First indigenous president in Bolivia. He is also over there on the left of the political spectrum. They are important to know the relationships between counties. Morales – been drafted by football club. These three states aren’t that big but they are ringleaders. President of Argentina – Cristina Kirchner – pic number 7. She is left. Took over husband. Socialist. Fully developed state and fairly decent economy but sucked lately. President of Chile – Michelle Bachelet. – pic number 8. She is left but closer to the spectrum. More equitable rights, free health care, free education. She was re-elected to second term. Dilma Rousseff – President of Brazil. Pic number 9. Titan of all Latin America – biggest country. Biggest population and economy. Top ten economies. She is
