Chapter 12 Notes - Static Equilibrium o Equilibrium implies the object is at rest ( static ) or its center of mass moves with a constant velocity ( dynamic ) o Focus on Static Equilibrium Static equilibrium is a common situation in engineering, resistance training, etc. o Static Equilibrium II 1 st Condition of Static Equilibrium No Net Force o = ΣF 0 Components (2-Dimensions) o Σ F x = 0 o Σ F y = 0 o Static Equilibrium III Στ 0 Object will rotate ! o Not static ! o Static Equilibrium IV 2 nd Condition of Static Equilibrium No Net Torques o = Στ 0 If torque is zero around any axis, it is zero around all axes for static equilibrium Static Equilibrium = vCM 0 ω = 0 - Torque and Equilibrium II o If the object is in equilibrium, it does not matter where you put the axis of rotation for calculating the net torque The location of the axis of rotation is completely arbitrary ( but you must specify one ) Once you have chosen an axis, you can’t change in mid-problem

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
