THE DANNON COMPANY2IntroductionSince 1942, Dannon has been committed to providing wholesome products to the greatest number of people. Headquartered in White Plains, New York, Dannon is a subsidiary of Danone, a leading global food and beverage company focused exclusively on healthy foods. Dannon makes a diverse and wide range of approximately two hundred types, styles and flavors of fresh and frozen dairy products in several plants across the United States in order to satisfy theevolving needs and desires of their consumers (Dannon, 2014). In 2008, Dannon was rated number two in the domestic yogurt market behind Yoplait. Danone’s global business focuses on bottled water, medical nutrition, baby nutrition, as well as fresh dairy (Marquis, Shah, Tolleson, & Thomason, 2011, p. 1). Yogurt is simply not as popular in the United States as it is in Europe. However, from 2003 to 2007, yogurt consumption grew 31% in the United States, versus only 6% in Switzerland and a downturn of 3% in France (Marquis et al., 2011, p. 5). Danone and Dannon are committed to being socially responsible companies and good corporate citizens. Danone is a recognized leader for its contributions to nutrition and health and was ranked best in class in a 2012 global Access to Nutrition Index for providing products that address both the problems of obesity and poor nutrition (Dannon, 2014).
