Study Guide World History Exam II 1. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna : Mexican political leader who fought for independence of Mexico and became its president during his 40-year career. Fought during the Mexican- American War 2. Monroe Doctrine 1923 : stated that any attempt by a European power to colonize in the Americas would be considered an unfriendly act by the United State. 3. Manifest Destiny: belief that a country was destined to rule a continent from coast to coast 4. Mexican-American War 1846-1848 : conflict that started as a result of the annexation of Texas. Mexico didn't recognize Texas's independence and fought the U.S. in order to keep it.
