Unformatted text preview: DRUG LEGALIZATION-legalized:-state can charge individuals for taxes- marijuana legalized in Netherlands, Holland-legal to buy or sell-decriminalize:-you can buy it and not worry about harsh consequences-marijuana is decriminalized in California-legal to sell if u have permission, legal to buy if u have a prescription, etc-Friedman:-in support of legalization-against the drug war-drug war: Reagan started it in the mid 80s.. really harsh punishments for possession or usage of drugs-Friedman says:-its very costly-you need cops, prisons, …-the cost is too great for the little benefit it gets-analogy with prohibition:-under prohibition there was more crime (black market, organized crime groups)-people viewed in a different way (it became more attractive to people, made it taboo, which makes it tempted for us to try)-if we legalize, there would be a decrease in crime-offer treatment and rehabilitation to addicts (compassionate)-if we legalize it, then the usage would increase in a jump , and then start to eventually decline...
