This is what I was going to submit.. What were the differences of the Spanish and English Empires,”in the New World”? Was it all about the land, or were they just feuding rivals? So, was the Spanish more motivated or were they a stronger force. The Spanish encountered empires with structure. The British, and the Americans encountered tribes, with very little structure. The terrain and setting were quite different. Central American natives used to living in cities could no more melt into the jungle than could the Spanish. The Native Americans were quite at home in small bands in the forests and plains. They also had a greater area to hide and maneuver. Spain focused its exploration on the lands surrounding the Gulf of Mexico, and the Pacific link on the Western coast of South America. Unlike the English, the Spanish employed Viceroys, or officials to rule the new world to keep order. These Viceroys reported directly to the king, and could be removed from office by a court of

Spain was quickly taking shape shortly aFter its uni±cation and embarked on the race to beat Portugal to wealth Found in the New World as well as in the Indies. The Spanish were also motivated to puriFy the heathens, but unlike the Portuguese, they also quested For glory and gold. These economic motives combined with well trained military o²cers and technology made the Conquistadores an unstoppable Force. Led by men like Cortez and Pizarro, the native Incas and Aztecs were no match For the Spanish. The Spanish did not want a relationship with the native Indians, but viewed them as a roadblock that required extinguishing. Spain would control much of the New World as they trekked and conquered all the way to the PaciFc Ocean....
