Latex Condoms Become Available (1930’s) •With the invention of latex condoms, condoms were more affordable and became more widely available. They were also effective at preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. (Amy, J.-J., & Thiery, M.). •This influences sexuality today in that less people are getting STD’s and unwanted pregnancies as well as having developed to the point where they now come in flavors or ribbed to focus more on the pleasure for females. In addition, new inventions such as the female condom were created to give people more options when it comes to preventing pregnancy and STD’s.
The Invention and wide use of the Morning After Pill (1950-1960’s) •In the late 1950’s the birth control pill was invented. In the late 1960’s it became widely distributed. With the invention of the pill women had more reproductive autonomy over their bodies and whether they wanted to have sex for fun or to procreate. This gave women freedom unseen in previous generations. (Prescott, H. M., pg. 7). • This influences sexuality today in that women can choose whomever they’d like to have relations with and not worry about having an unplanned child which greatly reduces abortions. Women can now wait until they are ready to have children and focus on their education and careers which greatly increases the chances of any child they choose to have, being born into a stable and healthy environment to parents who are ready and capable of caring for them.
