Sahil Amin Proteomics:1D, 2D, and MALDI TOF Sequencing Proteomics is a relatively new field of biological studies that focuses on the study of the structure and function of proteins. It first began to emerge late in the twentieth century, and advances in technology in the twenty-first century have taken it to new grounds. In treating diseases such as cancer, proteomics is a vital tool, as it allows an in depth look into the genetic expressions of cells using tools such as biomarkers. Proteomoics utilizes many techniques when looking to understand protein biochemistry. One of the most basic ways to assess protein presence is by performing a western blot with 1D gel electrophoresis. In 1D gel electrophoresis, proteins are first extracted from tissue or a group of cells. Samples are then placed in wells in a gel with buffer, and then have voltage run through them. Proteins are separated in only one dimension in this manner. After the gel electrophoresis

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
