Chapter 10 Case Study Karstadt versus J.C. Penney Discussion Questions answers: Question 1 Work culture in the U.S. differs from work culture in Germany in the following ways: In U.S. workers tend to expend more time working than their German counterparts. According to the case study, a work week in Germany’s manufacturing industry is around to 30 hours while U.S’s is around 37.7 hours. Americans usually bring work to their homes while Germans reject the idea. Germans have access to at least 5 weeks of annual vacations while their American counterparts don’t have a statutory minimum. Americans tend to have more than one job and have high workloads while Germans don’t. More training is offered in Germany compared to U.S. Basically, Americans are more obsessed with their jobs compered to Germans. Question 2 Karstadt provides a better quality of life and more efficient work-life balance.
