Harris Chapter 5 2. The meaning of the word Messiah is anointed. Jesus was not called the Messiah be- cause of his political activism, but rather because he was anointed by God. Jesus may not have delivered the people from the Romans. Instead, he delivered them from their sins and gave them a promise of a better life after death. Jesus was not the king of Israel, but he was a direct descendent of David and is considered the king of Christianity.

Jesus did not come to earth to be a politician setting up an earthly king-dom. He came as a savior preparing the people for a Heavenly kingdom. By doing this, Jesus was more of a Messiah than the people could have ever expected....
