Week 5 AssignmentHist-2005-2, World History: 1900-1945The 14 points was the 1918 statement by President Woodrow Wilson that the “GreatWar” was being fought for the moral cause and for postwar peace in Europe. Wilsondirectly addressed what he thought to be the causes for the war and it was a formulatedideological justification for the United State’s entry into the war. Basically the speech laidout a policy of free trade, open agreements, democracy and self determination.(Chapter 11, Pg. 156).Woodrow’s speech and 14 points served as a significant tool for the propaganda ofpeace and ethics, and more importantly to motivate the allied troops. The design of thepoints were to purposely undermined the Central Powers’ will to continue and alsoformed the basis of the armistice signed between the Central Powers, the Allies and thesurrender of Germany. Some belligerents gave general indications of the aims, but mostkept their post war goals to themselves.
