Introduction
According to scientists lisping is a discourse obstacle that explicitly identifies with
making the sounds related with the letters S and Z. Lisping generally create during
youth and frequently disappear all alone. Be that as it may, some endure and
require treatment in some cases. One more name for lisping is sigmatism. There
are no known reasons for It. Certain individuals believe that utilizing a pacifier
later at particular age might result in treating lisps. They accept delayed pacifier
use can reinforce the muscles of the tongue and lips, making lisps almost certain.
In any case, pacifier utilization isn’t a component in each youngster with a stutter.
Moreover, every youngster that utilizes a pacifier doesn’t get a lisp.
Some causes for lisps can be;
 Tongue-tie— a condition where the tongue is fastened to the lower part of
the mouth. This limits its development. One more name for a Tongue-tie is
ankyloglossia.
 Issues with jaw arrangement.
 Essentially having figured out how to say the sound mistakenly.
Background of Study
The intended study proposes to deal with the psychological causes of lisping. As
most the times it has seen that people associate lisps with medical illness. While
psychological causes for lisping have not been much discussed.
Problem Statement
It is uncommon for an individual who does not have a lisp, to truly understand
lisping – unless they are a speech therapist. Many people have misconceived
notions of what a lisp is. Lisp is a speech impediment described by the
disarticulation of sibilant sounds. There are many different types of lisps, which are
characterized by where the tongue is placed in the mouth when producing these
‘hissy’ sounds. Many dental conditions or devices can cause temporary lisps.
Overbites and under bites are examples of conditions that can cause lisped speech,
as can braces and retainers. Usually people think that lisps can only be caused by
these temporary situations which is not the case; many people live with lisps their
whole lives – often they face a lot of problems as they can not pronounce S and Z

sounds. Yet it is not consider as a big problems and not much research has done on
this topic. We will find out psychological causes that nurture lisping to make
treatment easy for them.
