TET1 TASK 4 - SPECIAL POPULATIONS 2Instructional SettingI am a Special Education teacher in a program that services students with autism,developmental delays, severe cognitive disabilities, and high support needs in a self-containedsetting with 1:1 adult support. I have four students; two kindergarteners and two first graders. Inmy classroom, there are four paraeducators who provide 1:1 support to help my studentsnavigate the school day safely and appropriately. My students have diverse learning needs andrequire high levels of support predominately with communication, behavior management,instructional materials, and more. Therefore, we implement a myriad of different adaptive andassistive technologies that support each of their individual needs based on their strengths,weaknesses, and ability levels.Technology for Students with DisabilitiesThe majority of my students are nonverbal learners with autism and developmentaldelays who greatly benefit from communication technologies such as Augmentative andAlternative Communication (AAC) devices. An example of an AAC device available to mystudents is an iPad or tablet equipped with a communication software that allows students toselect different “buttons” on the screen to generate complete sentences, responses to instructional
