-1 Marilyn Monroe Marilyn Monroe has been an icon in the united states for many years, from her beauty and charm to her amazing sex appeal. This nation can not get enough of this blonde bomb shell. In her autobiography “My Story” she tells about her sad childhood and her hardships to make it to the top. Born Norma Jean Mortenson on June 1 st 1926, in Los Angles California to Gladys Baker. Her father was anon existent part of her life, she only knew him by a picture on the wall of her mothers room. In many occasions she imagines him as if he looked like Clark Gable, she had daydreams about what a great father he would be and hoped that one day he would love her. Norma was a very poor child, her mother sent her to live in other peoples homes and gave them five dollars a week to look after her. One day her mother walked in while Norma was doing dishes, she started to cry and told Norma that she was going to get a cute little white house. Gladys did get the little white house, but one day she fell down the stairs laughing and screaming and was sent to a mental institution. Norma was then sent to an orphanage where she was sent around to nine different homes, until she could take care of herself. At the age of sixteen she got married to her
