10/22/07 Homework 1. The EDF believes that farm and food policy has great influence on consumers, farmers, and the environment. Consumers are greatly affected by farm and food policy, for such policies help to reduce human dependency on precious fossil fuels and offer a greater variety of healthier food. Farmers and ranchers also reap benefits of farm and food policy, for such policies help the farmers and ranchers increase profits, while also offering lower costs. By offering incentive to farmers to create environmental friendly methods of farming, the sustainability of our environment is upheld. The EDF has proposed several policies that could help lead to a better farm policy in the US. The EDF feel that by offering a policy that meets the need of the majority of farmers, consumers, and communities is the foremost important aspect of a new policy. By creating such policy, more people are able to reap the economic and environmental benefits of such policies.
