Liberal vs Conservative Ideology Note: these are provided to help you understand ideology, but realize they are ‘generalizations’ and are not ‘all inclusive’… Liberals & Conservatives: these labels have changed over time; currently, members of the Democratic Party are generally considered Liberals and the Republican Party are generally considered Conservatives….However, our political parties in the USA are very broad based , and this does not mean there are not conservative democrats or liberal republicans… there are. - Ideology is constant , we superimpose political parties on top of them. Conservatives generally believe individuals should take care of problems themselves without government intervention or assistance (there is often a very fine line between these two, depending on whether you are giving or receiving) they generally believe in or support: - Social Darwinism, survival of the fittest, self reliance, individualism - business should be left alone to compete in ‘free market enterprise’ without
