Study Sheet For Psychology Chapter 12 – Motivation Motivation has 4 factors: 1. Biological – Our parents’ genes has passed traits on to us on how we motivate ourselves 2. Social – The environment has an effect on how we motivate ourselves 3. Emotional – How we feel can effect how we motivate ourselves 4. Cognitive – How we think can effect how we motivate ourselves Maslow made this high achy chart of motivated forces. He believes we must satisfy the bottom needs before we can reach the top of the triangle. 1. Self Actualization (noticing your self esteem and motivation, satisfied) 2. Esteem (self esteem, don’t put yourself down) 3. Social (ability to interact with people) 4. Safety (shelter) 5. Biological Needs (water, food) The 5 Theories Of Motivation: 1. Instinct Theory (McDougall) – believed we are motivated by our instincts; this theory failed because there were too many instincts. 2.
