I.3.3 The First Council of Nicaea This is just a small, organized creed of what the Catholic and Apostolic church believe in. They claim that Christ is of the same being that God the father is. One thing that caught me off guard was the incredibly small section on the Holy Spirit. “And [we believe] in the Holy Ghost.” That is all. They gave a paragraph to God. They also gave a paragraph to Christ. But, they only gave one sentence to the Holy Spirit. That is peculiar to me. Anywho, the last paragraph was interesting cause it basically stated that if you didn’t believe or agree with what was previously stated, you don’t get to go to heaven. No bueno I.3.6 Costa Carras- A Brief History of the Filioque Dispute This essay is an expansion on a British journal. He talks about this term ‘Filioque’. It is repeated several times throughout the writing. It is described as “The view that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son…” It was not written into the Spanish version of the Nicene Creed, although it was widely believed at the time. But, oddly enough, it was written into a completely unrelated verse known as the Athanasian Creed, which was drawn up in the West of the time. He then goes into various historical events and periods in which the ‘filioque’ was accepted, denied, and sometimes ignored altogether. It sets the timeline of the ‘filioque’s’ theological journey. It is one of the fundamental differences between Eastern and Western Christendom. I.3.7 The Geneva Confession of 1536 This, more or less, is just the author’s theology. It is 5 pages of this guy telling the reader what he thinks about the Scriptures, God the Father, and Christ the Son.
