The Spread of Buddhism There are an enumerable number of Buddhist belief systems. After the death of Siddhartha Gautama, Buddhism quickly begins to spread across Asia. 1. A good Buddha uses provisional language in order to lead people. o What works for one person to move towards enlightenment may not necessarily work for another. The goal is to find the most effective means for a particular student to achieve enlightenment. o Don’t get too attached to your teachings. Analogy of crossing a river with a raft: Don't carry the raft with you. In zen: If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him! Don’t get attached to the teacher either. 3. Minimal Initial Metaphysical Structure o We shouldn't waste our time bickering about the nature of reality.
