Unformatted text preview: Professor Radcliff Spring 2008 HIEU 146: Essay Assignment Topic : Write an essay that compares and contrasts the “rise of fascism” in Germany in the early 1930s with Italy in the early 1920s, and make an argument about the emergence of fascism that emphasizes either the similarities between the two cases, and thus a “generic” explanation, one that emphasizes the uniqueness of the German case and thus the distinctiveness of nazism and the German context, or some other theoretical framework for understanding the emergence of fascism. Sources : The main source for your paper will be William Sheridan Allen’s The Nazi Seizure of Power: The Experience of a Single German Town , which provides a grass-roots analysis of the rise of fascism in one locale.
