Nick Orozco Section 5 17 March 2008 Lab Partner: Colin Smolinsky Chapter 7: Spectroscopy Purpose: The purpose of this lab was two-fold. First, we were to learn how to use a spectroscope to measure the wavelengths of various emission spectrums. Second, the purpose was to determine the identity of an unknown sample and its spectral wavelengths. In order to do this, we had to calibrate the spectroscope by observing wavelengths of known elements. After calculating the known wavelengths, a Calibration Plot was used to help us discover the identity of the unknown gas.
