Unformatted text preview: 1-16-08The French Revolution-People were upset because of Louis the 15th, he sent lots of time and money against wars-He made a massive debtCause of the Revolution-Feudalism-Financial Problems-Oppression by Catholic Church-Royal and Noble Excesses-Resentment of AbsolutismLouis the 16th-On February 1786 he sees there is no money and that he wants to fix the problem-He called together the Assembly of Notables which consisted of clergy, nobility and bourgeoisie-He asks them if he could levy taxs on their land, putting the entire nations debt on them -Louis then assembled the Estates General on May 5 1789, 2 years after the Assembly of Notables-First Estate-Church-Second Estate-Nobility-Third Estate-Everybody else-The first and second estates made up only 5% of the population but owned 95% of the land-The church and nobility wanted to vote by order but the Third Estate wanted to vote by head count-Many Enlightened nobles supported the Third Estate-Emmanuel Joseph Sieyes, published a pamphlet called, What is the Third Estate?, He said it was the -Emmanuel Joseph Sieyes, published a pamphlet called, What is the Third Estate?...
