History 2 2-6-08 Brazil Continued -In Rio de Janerio is where king john set up -Many aristocrats come with John, they started to get into fights with the Brazilian elates -The aristocrats lacked noble credentials -John would open Brazilian ports for free world trade -They use to have restricted trade -The present of the royal court in Brazil strengthened the colonial relationship -Court stayed in Brazil for 13 years -Rio de Janeiro was transformed into a imperial capital -1820 after Napoleon was defeated, King John is recalled to Portugal -Though he left his son Pedro in Brazil as a regent -In September 1822 Pedro declares Brazilian Independence and Pedro is declared the Constitutional Emperor -Fighting lasted for only a year, Brazil then started a new monarchy Latin America Political Fragmentation -Fragmentation was everywhere after its independence -Landed elites remained in control of politics -The church was between conservatives and liberals in society -Throughout the place civil unrest was common
