Lecture Five 8-29-07 New Islamic Empires 1500-1800 Ottoman Empire Safavid Empire Mughel Empire -They all shared/defined military patronage state -Military patronage state- a vast military institution, all state functions were absorbed into the royal military household, and within the military household, bureaucrats and religious functionaries were ranked and paid like military elite -They were military creators -Rulers of empires excised personal command of the military -Though they didnt use the military as there rule -Some of them used all there existing resources -They protected there religious and traditions Ottoman Empire -It was established by the Ottoman Turks -The turks used to be nomadic but then turned semi-nomadic -They were central Asia and moved to West Asia -They settled in a place called Anatolia-Asian part of Turkey -Seljuk turks came first in the Anatolia during the 9th-11 th century -They came to dominate Anatolia and make the first dynasty of the Turks -They were the first Turk dynasty under the leadership of one person -It expanded to the area of the Byzantine Empire -Though the Turks were no match to the Mongols military power
