Hanna Lee Week 1 Participation Assignment HIS 105 1854-1861 Bleeding Kansas The violence and terror during the settling of Kansas terrorist is known as Bleeding Kansas. This name was given right before the civil war. During 1854, murderous mobs, public hangings, beatings and general terror was very commonly occurred in Kansas as a result of conflict between Northern abolitionists and pro-slavery Southerners. The issue was whether to keep Kansas a slave state or Free State. The occurrence of war, killing and violence was increasing regardless of federal intervention. The main location where all these violence was going on was in the place called Lawrence. Lawrence was an anti-slavery town who later wanted entire Kansas to be slavery free slavery state but pro-slavery fighters didn’t took it well. Later in 1856, Missouri attacked Lawrence, they wrecked newspapers, robbed banks, and burned the hotel and the home of the Free-Soil Governor. Four days later, abolitionist John
