SUBJUNCTIVE / INDICATIVE in NOUN CLAUSES MG 210-18 STRUCTURE : ……… Main clause …… que ……… embedded clause Indicative Subj / Ind • Usually subjunctive is used in noun clauses: Es importante que entiendas lo que explico. • Exception to the general rule are those sentences where the main clause indicates unemotional acceptance as truth of the idea expressed in the embedded clause. Pienso que entiendes lo que explico. Some verbs in the main clause will call for indicative , such as: pensar; imaginar; saber; creer; resultar; estar seguro, ser + verdad-cierto- evidente-obvio-claro-evidente; ver; observar; olvidar; sentir; notar; darse cuenta de; parecer; convenir en; decir algo… All these verbs, when in the negative

If both clauses have the same subject the dependent verb is in the infinitive form [and there is no “que” ]. Desean llegar temprano mañana. Desean que ustedes lleguen temprano mañana. Quiero ir. Quiero que vayas . Es necesario estudiar todos los días. Es necesario que estudiemos todos los días....
