Tasmanians and Australian natives were the worst off ii. Whites put Tasmanians on small island and blacks all died b. Darwin thought extinction was a part of evolution c. Possums just came north again to NY from last glaciations period d. Colorado Trout incident i. Conversationalists tried to raise and release rare kind of cut throat trout ii. Turns out they were raising the wrong kind that was already popular II. David Raup a. Paleontologists can’t really deal with species levels i. They deal with genuses and call them species ii. Lack of all fossils b. Speciation i. Raup: Splitting of evolutionary branches into two distinct species ii. Darwin: Transformation of one species to another over time (Phyletic Transformation) c. Living Fossils i. Horseshoe crabs, ECT.
