In this case study “Preventing Diarrheal Deaths in Egypt”, I will discuss the diarrheal
disease and its effects on Egypt due to the high mortality rate.

The most important complication
of diarrheal disease is dehydration, which leads to other severe complications and maybe death if
not treated as soon as possible. 1 Although we can prevent and treat diarrheal disease, there is a
high mortality rate from diarrhea cases in children less than 5 years.

The role of prevention is
very important by using Oral Rehydration Therapy.
Diarrheal disease is a gastrointestinal disease that causes a high rate of mortality in
children worldwide. 1 In low and middle-income countries diarrheal disease may be caused
around two million deaths annually.

There are many trigger factors for diarrheal disease as lack
of hand hygiene, unclean water or food and eating with dirty hands. 1 The most important thing I
have learned from this case study, that in order to treat dehydration, fluids and electrolytes need
to be modified.
