Using data found at Yahoo! Finance, I selected 110 consecutive closing prices (that had been adjusted for dividends and splits) for my stock. Using these values starting from July 1, 2004 through December 6, 2004, I was able to then explore various statistical ideas. It is difficult to notice trends by looking at only a list of numbers, so I first decided to create a time series plot of all the closing values. Index Close 110 99 88 77 66 55 44 33 22 11 1 25 24 23 22 21 20 19 18 Time Series Plot of Close Before creating this illustration of closing values, I really had no idea what the basic trend in prices was, but now looking at this illustration has allowed me to easily see the ways in which my company’s stock prices have changed over the past five months. Noting that the index of days goes from most recent to longest ago, I think it is now easy to see that the price of the stock has been increasing in general since day 47, which was September 30. It is also evident that the closing prices between days 86 (August 8 th ) and 23 (November 3 rd ) were lower than those from earlier in the summer, and later in the winter.
