Neal Johnson January 25, 2007 Bible 11 Mr. Malchwezkie Persevering When Faced with Discouragement Ezra chapter 5 teaches us to keep going even when our work gets stopped or slowed down. A long time ago, before Jesus was even born, the Israelites were captured, and their temple was destroyed. The Babylonians captured them and sent them back to the Babylonian Capitol. After God’s people, the Israelites, were there for many years, God sent a good king over Babylon. This king, Cyrus, let the Israelites go back to Jerusalem. He also let them rebuild the temple, so that they could worship God the way He commanded them to worship Him. Cyrus gave the people of Israel all of the furniture that went into the temple. He also sent smart men who knew how to build large buildings like the temple. One of these men was named Sheshbazzar. He laid the whole foundation to the temple for the people. That was a lot of work! After some time the people got tired of building a house for God, they wanted a house
