Joseph Mullan REL120-04 Unit II Short Essay Questions 1. Zoroaster taught that there is one God or Wise Lord. The wise Lord is all powerful and all knowing. Zoroaster taught that the wise lord is responsible for all of creation including the spiritual world as well as the material world. It is also said that all evil is created by Ahriman, but not by the wise lord as he is absolutely good. Ahriman is responsible for creating evil forces that contradict every good thing made by the wise lord. Ahriman is not able to for see the future and thus must react to the wise lord’s actions, at some point Ahriman will cease to exist when his allotted time has run out. Zoroaster taught of a cosmic dualism, in that all good things have an equal and opposite evil in the universe. This means that man is caught between this struggle of good and evil. This leads to the teaching that humans have choice and thus play a role in the battle between good and evil.
