It was such a unifying factor for this new country Amendment process allowed it to grow with the people Compromised so that everyone was kind of represented Structural document – not legislative Functional document but also a SYMBOL – part of the American people Constitutions make things look legitimate Is our government the best system of government? At the time it was laid out, it probably was the best – who knows now? We are pretty much taught that even though this isn’t the best, it’s the best we  can do. Our political system is so ingrained – not sure we could change. Amendment process requires 2/3 of both houses of congress and ¾ of the  state houses. Structurally the constitution keeps the US together – so in that it definitely
