Danielle Boudreau Women In Music 80S Assignment 10 Ballad, a general term for a song usually sung solo, that contains a narrative or dramatic element. We discussed this term when we learned about country music but country music but ballads are also used to an extent in hip-hop music as well. In country music often times women sing about the dangers of men, or falling in love, or bad relationships that they have seen and those are ballads used to warn other girls. The cultural relevance of a female country singer singing a ballad about a time in her life to warn girls is important because it gives power to women to help empower other women. For so long in music, especially in country music, women took the back seat to men but once their ballads began to get popular and other women could connect it gave women a place in country music. Though ballad and warning ballads are typically a country music term, hip-hop music has its own form of it as well.
