ARISTOTLE (384-322BC) What is the subject matter of ethics? goods or “ends” the good for human beings = the good life = happiness we are like ARCHERS shooting at a target (p. 2, i2) Some ends are activities themselves , not products (or consequences). What are A’s expectations for ethics? ethics is about things that are true for the most part [though perhaps not always] (2, i3) begin with a rough (i3) general sketch or outline (i2) and fill in the details as we are able… does not begin with a supreme principle of morality like the GHP… Where should we begin (methodologically)? With what is known to us (or believed by us)… [where else could we begin?](4, i4) Need maturity and a good upbringing (3-4, i3;i4)
