WORKPLACE MOTIVATION 2 Workplace Motivation Motivation is key in any workplace. It is important as a part of management to make sure that each employee feels as though they are receiving the proper motivation to do their job. Each employee is different as well as each manager and their style. There are also many different ways of motivating people to make sure that the workplace stays a positive place for everyone as well as making sure that work gets done in a timely manner. Motivational concepts can be different and approached differently by many different members of management. Motivation can be verbal, setting goals, a person’s internal ambition to succeed as well as many other concepts. I used to work for a large chain corporation about 10 years ago that was very different in their expectations of motivating their team members. I was a front end manager for this company and I supervised the entire front cashier area, the food court, guest services as well as being responsible for all the cash registers and customer service within the store. Any given day I was in charge of 30+ employees and their motivation in making it a great day. Upon opening during the day it was my responsibility to fund each register in the store, create a lunch schedule for each team member during that day, maintain customer service standards in all areas of the store as well as make sure my team was receiving all the positive reinforcement they could possibly get. I was only 20 at the time so I was learning a lot about myself and life as it was. During that time I learned that not all members of your team are motivated the same way nor are they all similar in personality, actually they are all quite different. The strategies that the company would use to motivate or have us motivate the team were usually something tangible like a gift with the company’s logo on it, which did not appeal to many team members. Another goal that each team member had to make was to have their transactions done under a particular
