As such, it touches briefly upon many topic areas. Please understand that there is a large amount of material that will be covered in this course that you will be responsible for knowing. You will be responsible for all readings, course notes, films, and information covered in the lectures and in the two texts. Course Goals: Health psychology can be defined as the application of psychological knowledge to the prevention and treatment of illness, promotion of health, and identification of the causes and correlates of health, illness, and related problems. This course reviews the theories and research findings that are the basis for the BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL model of medical treatment emphasizing the social and psychological factors associated with major health problems. Students are encouraged to examine their personal health status and to develop their own general health profile. Texts: Brannon, L., & Feist, J. (2007). Grading: There will be three multiple-choice exams. Each multiple-choice exam will be worth 40 points and will only cover material since the previous exam.
