Textbook and other required materials: • Halliday, Resnick and Walker Fundamentals of Physics, 8th Ed. (or 7th Ed.) Physics 313 Activity Sheets (available from the college bookstore). • WebAssign. You should get a WebAssign Student Access card (including your registration access code) by asking a clerk at the textbook department in the bookstore or by paying with a credit card at the web site: http://www.webassign.net/ Do not discard the Student Access card until the end of the quarter. If you purchased a custom RIT version of the textbook in the college bookstore, then a WebAssign Student Access Card may be included in the package. Prerequisites: You must have received credit for University Physics II (1017-312) and Calculus C or II (1016- 273 or 1016-282) before taking this course. Format: University Physics will be taught in the Team Physics format, which includes both lab activities and lectures during the two-hour workshop sessions. During the workshops, you will be working with a team of two or three other students on problems, experiments and reports. Since you and your lab partners are responsible for working together and helping each other, it is important to attend every workshop session. Teams may be reassigned periodically by the instructor. Exams: There will be two one-hour exams for all sections of Physics 313 held during special 4 PM

Friday afternoon periods. The two-hour final exam, given at the time scheduled by the Registrar, will be cumulative but may have some emphasis on material covered after the last hour exam. All exams will be required (no exam grades will be dropped). If you miss an exam, you must contact the instructor in advance or as soon as possible after the exam. Homework problems: There will be homework assigned frequently on WebAssign. Your WebAssign username is the part of your RIT e-mail address before the “@” symbol (for example, if your e-mail address is [email protected] , then your WebAssign username is abc1234 ). If you have not used WebAssign before, your WebAssign password is initially set to be the same as your username. Change the password when you first use WebAssign.
