1 INTRODUCTION
We take pleasure in welcoming you to AGE3702 and trust that the tutorial matter will stimulate
your interest in the subject. The module AGE3702 is offered as a blended module. This means
that your study material is the mode of delivery but you will be required to complete the

2 PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES
2.1 Purpose
The purpose of this module is to introduce you to applied archaeology, heritage conservation,
Cultural Resource Management (CRM) and archaeotourism. It intends to give you a broad
overview of the legislation, concepts and debates around heritage management.
2.2 Learning outcomes
Conservation and management practices are an integral part of cultural heritage. In this module,
you will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the different principles relating to heritage
legislation and conservation, CRM and archaeotourism. The following learning outcomes will be
covered in this module:
Learning outcome 1: Define the concept heritage, recognise the unclear division between
cultural and natural heritage, and appreciate heritage as a non-renewable resource.
