Michael Arias THE 100 Section 02/pm March 11th, 2008 Amadeus A play like Amadeus is one that a person must experience at least once in their lifetime. With the sounds, voices, music and acting, it is a plethora of entertainment. The play, by Peter Shaffer, was produced by URI theater. It was directed Alan F. Hawkridge. Scenic design was by Carl F. Gudenius, costume design was by SAlly E. Tschantz-Dwyer, lighting design was by Christian Wittwer and sound design was by Michael E. Martineau. The play was very well executed. The way actors interacted with each other led the audience to a whole nother world. The way the music intertwined with the drama of the play was also a large factor. Along with that, the quality of the production was incredible. The set, the sound, the actors and the play itself was done very well. Salieri is an old man, having long outlived his fame, and is convinced he is the assassin of Mozart (by poison). He was around the stage complaining of his old of age, while hearing the towns people whisper his name. He then speaks directly to the audience, promising to explain himself. He begins to shed his old robe and opens up as his younger self, full of life. The play then flashes back to the late eighteenth century, at a time when Salieri has not met Mozart in
