01/02/2009 20:50:00 60’s in south we see outsiders and media that brings attention to problem.  Publicly join SNCC and lose job or life. SNCC=student nonviolent coordinating  committee. SNCC comes out of lunch counter sit downs. More middle class blacks that  are rising in economic class. NAACP, CORE (Congress of Racial Equality). Groups  come together to form COFO.  COFO thought Johnson would be worse than Kennedy. They have short term  success but long term failures: freedom summer in ’64. (125) voter registration  campaign of 40’s and 50’s looked to sharecroppers. Fear of interracial marriage and  losing of racial purity is a rhetorical cornerstone of KKK and White Citizens Councils.  Mississippi freedom Democratic Party showed that people could register, but  couldn’t due to discrimination. Ohio SNCC organizes white volunteers to come down.
