Building a Personal Learning Network The Power of Connection: Building a Personal Learning Network (PLN) Basically Personal Learning Networks or PLNs, is not an original concept. Our family, friends or relatives were all part of the origin of personal networking. Thanks to the internet, web technology development, and wireless connections PLNs has been amplified to immerse people from the real world whom you have never met. Augmenting our understanding of the world around us we no longer rely on television, radio, newspapers or textbooks we can just log online to retrieve the information we need and sometimes we don’t need. These are indeed exciting times that merit staying tuned or staying connected in sync with the world around us. How we represent ourselves personally online also introduces our world to the world. Personal Learning Network is the entire collection of people with whom you engage and exchange information, usually online. Anyone that you interact with is a part of your PLN, whether they ar social contacts, professional peers or experts in their field (Klingensmith 2009). As part of our career development, PLN is a powerful tool for discovering connections, gathering information and learning. Clifford, (2013) suggests that learning networks are based on the theory of connectivism, or learning from diverse social webs. Connectivism implies that learning relies on communicating ideas with others. PLNs facilitate learning through meaningful interactions (Clifford, 2013). Building My Personal Learning Network Correlating and building relationships across the world is invaluable as others communicate and impart their knowledge in certain areas. Building my personal learning network will start with finding people that share my values and interests (Grantham, N. 2012). 3

Building a Personal Learning Network In building my learning network, the primary focus will entail sharing my ideas and resources, teaming up with others and learning. Utilizing various web tools, my PLN will combine substantial and virtual resources. The global learning network is a defining feature I will seek out to increase my connections in certain areas.
